Isadora – Rock Base Nail Hardener and Ridge Filler

Is it me or has this winter been really cold and dry?

Well no matter what the truth is, my nails have not been at their best the last two months and it is the first time in my life that I’ve experienced brittle nails. Something that shocks me as I’ve never experienced this before even when I had super long nails.

But I do think it is because of the low temperature that has been sweeping over and my own lackluster attempt at moisturizing my hands.

Well luckily for me and a lot of other people, Isadora came out with a new nail product  which specifically addresses this issue.

This product claims:

  • Hardening – Making the nail stronger and more resilient.
  • Ridge filler – Evening out ridges in the nail to create a smooth surface.
  • Moisturizer – Reduces the loss of moisture by locking it in.
  • Brightener – Optimal brightening pigments that makes the nails look fresher and healthier.
  • Protector – Protects nails against harms.

It is also advertised as being perfect for use as a caring base coat under regular nail polish aswell as being perfect for those who use fake/acrylic nails.

According to Isadora one of the active beneficial ingredients in this base coat is Neonyca (celery seed extract) which is going to strengthen, moisturize and protect your nails.

This product comes housed in the regular nail polish bottle from Isadora and contains ml of product.

Isadora does include a small booklet which contains instructions in different languages.

  • Apply two coats on bare nails.
  • Reapply two coats every 2-3 day, remove the treatment with nail polish remover once a week.
  • Continue the treatment as long as needed.

So how did this work out?

The first thing I notice about this product is how the formula is thinner than a regular nail polish formulation, it has almost a gel-like consistency and with a pinkish tint.

It also applies very thin but it needs to be mentioned that it does not run down the nail as you apply, it actually dries down very quickly compared to a regular nail polish or base coat, which makes the whole process very enjoyable and fast.

I’ve used this product for three weeks and the results have been amazing.

My nails are still not completely where I want them to be but they have become visibly stronger, there are fewer lines and breaks + my nails have stopped becoming see-through after showering or being in contact with water for a prolonged time.

I really enjoy that this product gives my nails a fresh look, it truly gives a “my-nails-but-better” effect thanks to the brightening pigments and the slight pinkish tint it has.

Lately I’ve actually dropped using my regular nail polishes and preferred to only use this on my nails. I’ve received a lot of compliments from people on how healthy my nails look.

Another reason why I like this product so much is that it is very practical for my job, which involves a lot of dirt and heavy lifting, since the formula is more gel like it does not form a lot of cracks where dirt can get through and show up.

It also lasts for four days on my nails and that is amazing since my hands are often get in touch with a lot of water, usually nail polishes cracks up or flakes off because of my job, so I’m very happy to have found a nail product that lasts and still looks gorgeous for some time.

My nails look healthier and they have become a lot stronger than they were previously.

I am really impressed by this release and Isadora just keeps killing the game for me, what happened to be honest?

This brand just keeps releasing great products that I’m falling in love with and it does shock me a bit since it’s not such a long time ago that I disliked the brand.

But back to the product.

It really has been a god send to me and I am going to continue using it in the future. It will definitely be rebought and I can absolutely recommend it to other people as it really does upheld it’s claims.

Maybelline – Dream Matte Mousse

This is one of those legendary products that have been around for years, everyone and their mama has either used it or at least have known about it, me included but this is truthfully the first time I’ve bought this….

The reason is very simply that the original shade line always consisted of medium shades with a strong warm undertone.

So you can imagine my surprise when I was at the drugstore and saw this. This new shade is called 02 Fair and it is very weird when you compare it to the rest of the line as it seem to be five shades lighter.

I have been looking for  a new matte foundation as I sometimes feel the need to change my usual routine occasionally. Instead of buying an old favourite of mine I decided to take a chance with Maybelline.

I’ve had this in my cabinet for five months and I’ve tested it properly out.

What is Maybellines’s claims about this foundation?

  • This long-lasting foundation features exclusive silky matte powder spheres that glide evenly onto the skin for a flawless, soft-focus 16-hour matte finish. Dermatologist tested. Allergy tested. Non-comedogenic. Suitable for all skin types. Suitable for sensitive skin.

This is where I have some mixed feelings.

The foundation comes in a glass jar and I do worry about the possible hygiene + the fact that this also means that the foundation comes in contact with a lot of air. Which can possibly lead to the foundation not only becoming a breeding ground for bacteria but also dry out very easily.

This is easily partially subverted by using a spatula or spoon to get the product out.

In itself I think the packaging does not look bad nor cheap, I actually like how the lid is colour coded and I like that it feels heavy in my hands.

The jar contains 18 ml of product.

You can clearly see how it sits atop the skin.

The shade is the lightest in the line and is called 02 Fair.

For my skin tone this is light enough but the undertone is a bit too neutral for me, it makes me look a little bit flat and tired. Plus the “primer” part of the formula gives me  a white cast in certain lights.

But that does not mean that the shade is bad as I know there are a lot of people out there who has requested that brands feature more pale foundations with neutral or warm undertones as it is more common with pale foundations to feature a cool undertone.

I believe this foundation will be a great addition for you if you are pale with neutral undertones.

The first impression of this foundation as I scooped it out of the jar was that it felt really velvety and that this could possibly become a new holy grail.

Before I applied it to my face I had already primed it even though this foundation claims to already have a priming effect in the formula. I decided to apply it first with my fingers before buffing it out with a finishing brush.

The result left much to be desired. For some very weird reason this made my cheeks look very textured and the most difficult area on my face for this foundation was my nose area which looked like it wanted to flake off.

To “fix” this I actually had to wet my finishing brush and wipe most of the foundation of the nose and spritz my beloved Isadora face mist on multiple times over the entire face to make this look good.

The next time I used this I tried it with a beautyblender and the result were almost the same.

My issue is that this foundation just slides on top of your skin and it never settles down or blend into your skin. It is also difficult to remove.

The coverage is also not that great.

The worst part was that after one hour I looked greasy…

I just can’t understand that since I rarely get oily when I wear foundations.

My skin has never reacted like this to any base product especially not in the way that this made my skin look more flawed than it looks like without any makeup.

My camera had difficulty capturing how this looks on my skin and in lack of proper daylight during the winter month’s it is notoriously difficult to take a good picture. I also decided to not wear anything but the foundation as to showcase the full effect it gives. As you can see my skin looks incredibly dry and flat.

To be honest this is not a new favourite of mine.

It’s not only that the shade is wrong but also that despite being advertised as a foundation for people with combo/oily skin it still highlights drier areas and does not do enough to hide imperfections or texture. Actually this foundation made me see flaws I don’t see when I’m not wearing any makeup….

I’m really surprised that a foundation that is claimed as the most sold in the world and that has been on display for at least almost a decade is this bad.

It is actually one of the super rare instances where I can’t understand  why anyone would enjoy this.

I truly felt that this foundation was demanding as it required both upkeep and a specific application method, it just became a hassle for me to use this and I did really experiment with it since I wanted to love it so badly.

Get to know me

I’ve had my blog for some time now and I thought it could be a great idea to let you know me a bit better.

I am very grateful for every comment, like, follower and visitor that I’ve received on this blog and 2017 has been a great year for me.

I hope to bring you more content in 2018 that you will hopefully enjoy.

Thank you so much everyone!

What made you start blogging?

I love writing and I’m also very opinionated. So I thought it would be a great idea to combine the two although I am currently not very happy with my blog since I also want to create posts about other topics, which I am currently working on as I think people will appreciate a broader range of topics.

What kind of makeup product are you incapable of living without?

Blush for the very simple reason that I can look dead without it, which is very typical when you are pale but there’s also that blush to me is a very versatile product and I am someone who loves mixing different blushes in order to achieve different effects.

How tall are you?

147 cm or 4.10 in.

What is your natural haircolour?

I am a dark ash blonde naturally.

What is your favourite colour?

Red of course.

Favourite movie?

I am a huge fan of horror movies and it is difficult to choose between my “babies” but if I can only pick one I’d have to say “The Cube”.

Favourite music?

I am an omnivore when it comes to music, I enjoy a wide range of genres so yet again it comes down to picking a favourite among “babies”. Looking at my spotify I’ll have to say there is a lot of metal, classic and electronica though.

Lately the artist I’ve listened to the most is Udo Dirkschneider.

How would you describe your style?

I really don’t think I have  a specific style. When i look at my wardrobe and makeup collection there is a wide range of possible combinations.

I believe the best way to describe my “style” would be to call it a fusion between athletic, vintage, ethnic and rock.

Ignore the red eyes XD but it was taken by my man when I was tightening my leather jacket. It is one of my favourite photos taken of me.

What were your best/worst subjects in school?

I always had good grades in school but I want to point out that the subjects I feel the most accomplished in was always english, art, history and science.

My worst subject was P.E as I felt very body conscious when I was younger.

Tea or coffee?

Both! but I do drink more tea since I am very sensitive to caffeine.

Do you have a favourite makeup brand?

Favorite memory from childhood?

When I was very young I suffered a lot from ear aches and my grandmother would put a cloth on a stone situated on top of the furnace, letting it heat up a couple of minutes before laying it on my pillow so that I could lay my hurting ear on it.

Thank you so much for reading.

Please send me questions you want answered and I will make a new post for them.

URBAN DOLLKISS Urban City Fresh Blown Eau De Parfum – No.4 Vermouth & Casiss

Like I said in my review of URBAN DOLLKISS Urban City Fresh Blown Eau De Parfum I was going to buy another perfume from the line. I finally received this is my mail a week ago.

The last one has quickly become a favourite for me as I’ve almost used it exclusively the last months.

So I do have high hopes for this one.

The notes in this perfume sounds very interesting. It has a great mixture of different olfactory groups and I have personally never tried a perfume with a mint note in it.

Bergamot, Casiss and Mint.

Jasmine, Rose and Honey.

Musk and Wood.

The packaging is the same as with the last one but the cardboard box is mint green instead of yellow.

It features the same apple-shaped bottle that contains 8 ml of product.

The Scent

As I mentioned with the last perfume from this line, the notes are fewer than what is common but it works the scents advantage.

This is a lot more sweeter than my other fresh blown eau de parfum and decidedly less sharp. Where the other one is very fresh and ” pointed” this No.4 is a bit more airy but still with some heaviness in it.

It has a very “green” quality to it which I believe is the mix of mint, rose, jasmine and casiss.

But it is very difficult to discern a lot of the notes in this scent separately as the notes in this scent has been mixed really well.

When you initially apply this it does have a cool undertone that I really enjoy, it’s likely caused by the mint, but during the dry down it becomes warmer and sweeter which I don’t like.

The sillage is what I would describe as medium but the longevity is amazing for a scent this inexpensive as it lasts for around four hours before starting to slowly fade.

I’d really wish this suited me but it is too sweet for my taste and I really expected the bergamot note to be much more present.

Personally speaking I don’t like this scent as it is too sweet and it becomes heavy on me.

But I can still recommend this especially to anyone who likes sweeter green scents. The price is unbeatable and the quality is great. I refuse to try layering this with my other fresh blown eau de parfum.

Sadly it did not suit me or my taste.

Garnier Respons – Soothing Hydrating Lotion with Oat Cream & Almond Milk.

Now that the temperature is getting even lower there is nothing I love more than taking warm bath’s and lathering myself up in creamy lotions or creams, before brewing a nice cup of tea and making a “blanket nest” on the coach.

This is the season after all 😉

So after running out after my favourite lotion and finding out that it had been discontinued I found this one at my local grocery store.

I have tried out a lot from the Garnier Respons line and I have had mixed results from the various products, but I did decide to try this out since it claims to be non greasy and non sticky, two qualities I’m always looking for when it comes to body lotions. It also sounded really luxurious since it has oat cream and almond milk in it.

Another claim is that it’s extracts are of 100% natural origin and it is formulated without parabens.

So how did this work out?

Let’s see!

The packaging is a tear shaped bottle made of plastic and with the standard pump.

The bottle holds 250 ml of product.

The first thing of notice is the very heavy gourmand scent this body lotion has. I did initially like it but it proves too strong the longer I wear it also smells very cheap after a while.

I don’t like it and I am very disappointed since I had very high hopes that the scent would be a “soothing and natural” gourmand scent instead.

What makes it even more of a let down is that the formula itself is absolutely wonderful. I cannot praise the formula high enough as it really does fulfill what it claims and leaves my skin soft.

The texture is this really creamy thick lotion, which did surprise me since I initially thought this would be much more milky in texture because of the quick dry claim.

It’s not quick to dry however but it really does not matter that much when I’m left with soft skin that feels soothed. I often get very rough skin on my arms and legs during the winter so this body lotion has really helps with that.

Too bad that the scent ruins it 😦

But if you love heavily sweet gourmandy scents then you will love this.

It is great at moisturizing skin and it really does have a soothing effect but for me the scent ruins everything.

I will however recommend this to people but personally I won’t buy it again.

Isadora: Get The Glow Collection

IsaDora: isadora; make-up; smink; cosmetic; kosmetik

This collection was released shortly after the main summer collections from my favourite drugstore brand Isadora, this is a much more playful collection compared to earlier releases the last two years which is something I talked about in my review of Isadora Summer Collection 2017 – Blue Bliss.

Which brings me to something else about this collection, it is in my opinion a mini collection with adding products from existing lines and a few products that are “variations” of existing products, personally speaking I like it when brands do that since I believe that if you already have a formula that is well-loved and popular then why not extend the product line?

This collection contains five nail polishes, six lip glosses, a lip glitter and a highlighter palette.

I bought the items I found interesting.

Gloss Glace  3-D Mirror Shine

Picture 619.jpg

This product line has been out for a while now but for this collection they came out with new shades.

I bought the shade 26# Iridescent Glow.

Description from Isadora:

Cover your lips with a glaced gloss effect and 3-D shine!

Gloss Glace  is a moisturizing lip gloss with a plumping effect that will visually make your lips look fuller.

  • 3-D Mirror shine.
  • Plumping.
  • Moizturising.
  • Long-lasting.
  • No transfering.
  • Easy and quick application.

Contains 16 ml e 0.54 oz of product. This is free from perfume and is clinically tested.

My opinion

I’m not a huge fan of lip gloss even though I like the look they can give.

Last year I bought the lip gloss set from H&Ms Global Fusion Collection and I really did enjoy those shimmer glosses as they were non-sticky and comfortable to wear which made me more curious about glosses.

This lip gloss is very intense on the lips. I enjoy this colour as it has a really intense blue iridescence and lilac shimmers, which is strangely flattering in my opinion and definitely makes this for me a very unique shade for me as I have nothing similar in my makeup collection.

It looks much more intense and iridescent in real life than in my pictures below.

When it comes to the claims Isadora has about this lip gloss, I’m not entirely sure if I can completely agree. It does slightly fulfill those claims but not in an extraordinary way

It does have a mirror like shine, I’ve never had a lip gloss this shiny before and yes, since it is a tube the application is neat and clean. But it is not completely transfer proof but it’s definitely long-lasting, more so than most lip glosses and not extremely sticky either.

It is a lip gloss that is very comfortable to wear and I really like the look. It has a very faint vanilla smell which derives from the aroma Isadora has listed in the ingredients list.

Loose Lip Glitter

This was one of the items I was the most excited about as it was among the standouts of this collection.

Description from Isadora:

Loose lip glitter which gives an iridescent and holographic effect. It has a weightless feeling that is comfortable and it can be used on top of any lipstick or lip gloss but also on other parts of the face and body. It is also easy to remove.

Contains 5 grams of product.

My opinion

I’ve used cosmetics glitters in the past but what makes this one stand out in for me is that it features an intense iridescence but is still very comfortable to wear since it does not give the “sand grains” feeling on the lips.

The glitter particles are made of different colours such as lilac, green, blue and orange which combined with the iridescence, creates a very bright effect and contributes to the extreme sparkle this product has.

I’ve used a lip balm below in the swatch photos.

Picture 637Picture 640Picture 638

Face Glow Prisma Wheel

Picture 616.jpg

This is the star of the collection and probably the item I was most eager to get my hands on. I do have many “coloured” highlighters in my makeup collection but I just had to get my hands on this.

These are also eye safe.

Description from Isadora:

Iridescent facial powder in five pearly shades. Can be used alone or be mixed together for a special effect.

Contains 18 grams of product. Fragrance free and clinically tested.

My opinion:

I have to be honest in that I feel the formula is not among the greatest that I’ve tried, it is a little bit chalky and the fall-out can be immense and truthfully I am a bit disappointed by that especially since the last “face wheel” I tried from Isadora had a silky and buttery formula.

But I have found myself using this quite often lately, because yes it has its cons but I still find this product incredibly enjoyable to use. It is also very practical when traveling.

These were extremely difficult to photograph btw and they look much more vibrant in real life than in the swatch photos below.

Since none of the shades is given a separate name, I’ll start with the purple shade in this palette and go clockwise.

The first shade of the wheel is a medium purple with a cool undertone. In the pan it also looks to have a hint of both blue and grey, to be honest this one did not excite me as I already have two purple highlighters in my makeup collection and it looked too muted to look good on me.

But it is flattering on skin since this turns into a purple highlighter with an intense blue iridescence running through it depending on the light source. It is a gorgeous shade that I feel I will use a lot in the future specifically as a blush topper.

I initially thought the second one would be a regular silvery highlighter, these shades are usually the ones who go best with a pale complexion but I already own highlighters like this so I really did think that this one would remain mostly unused.

Boy was I wrong!

This one is the least subtle of the highlighters, it’s the only metallic highlighter in the wheel and combined with the iridescence it is one intense highlighter. It is so intense that I rarely use it on my cheekbones since it often becomes too much for my taste.

It also lightens the area it is applied to.

But I do really enjoy this one more than I initially expected.

The third one looked like a subtle beige highlighter in the pan, it even looks a little bit boring and not like it would pack much of a punch.

On skin however this is the highlighter that I didn’t knew I needed in my life, this is a stunning highlighter with the pink duochrome effect on a shimmery beige background and it does contain a small amount of micro-glitters.

It gives a “glow from within” effect on my skin.

Usually the only highlighters that looks “natural” on me is the pale white/silvery ones but I am happy to have come over a highlighter that falls outside that without looking muddy on me.

This swatch came out as more cool-toned than it really is.

The next one in the wheel is a darker version of the last one and I love using it as a blush topper.

It is too dark for me to use as a highlighte ron my nose or cupids bow but I really enjoy it as it gives a subtle warmth to any blush I’m sporting. It is really lovely as it’s not over bearing on even my skin tone.

It has the same pink duochrome as the last one but on a peachy background and I feel this one is going to be perfect for people with medium, tan or even deeper skin tones. It’s gorgeous!

The last one is my least favourite to be honest.

It is a minty green that will look bomb on a lot of people but I don’t feel it suits my skin tone that well.

When I try this out I feel that it makes me look very sick, which I find sad since the shade itself is very beautiful and I’d wish I could have pulled it off.

Nail Glow

These are welcome in my makeup collection.

I bought two of these, namely shades #843 Aqua Glow and #842 Lilac Glow.

Description from Isadora:

Get glowing and iridescent nails with these nail polishes! These come in five different shades and you apply these with two coats or more depending on the wished effect.

Contains 6 ml of product. Clinically tested.

My opinion:

If you are looking for something opaque then you need to look elsewhere, these polishes are more for effect or on top of other nail polishes.

They are lovely in their own right but frankly not super special in my opinion, I believe I have a Depend nail polish somewhere with a similar effect but it needs to be said that I enjoy these since they do have a lovely glowy effect but also dries quite fast.

These are an extension of Isadora’s wide brush line, which means that the brush are more of a rectangular and wide shape which makes it easier to avoid a streaky application.

I really enjoy these and I believe they will look gorgeous if you are out and about during night-time.

#843 Aqua Glow

This one is a lovely shade with teal and light blue iridescent shimmers with some hint of lilac iridescence.

Depending on the light source it really does glows but it looks boring in broad daylight.

It also lasts sufficiently long.

I like it when I apply it in three coats.

#842 Lilac Glow

This was the one I was the most excited about but for some strange reason it never lasts longer than two days, which is weird since the other shade lasts almost a week before starting to crack.

I like the shade but since it takes three coats before I like the look, it just becomes a waste of time for me to apply this.

I love this collection as it is very playful and unique from a drugstore brand.

There were products with some cons but overall I am very impressed with this collection and I do hope that Isadora release more playful collections as they have done very well lately.

What do you think?

Is this something you’d personally wish more brands released?

Sample Monday – TonyMoly Banana Hand Milk

Picture 357

It’s been a very long time since I’ve posted a sample monday post!

But I’m going to start-up with these again and I’m very excited to bring you one about the TonyMoly banana hand milk.

Personally I have issues with most hand creams even though I often get dry hands during the colder seasons. One main reason is that I feel that they are sticky and tacky but since this is supposed to be a lighter formula I have high hopes that I might like this.

According to TonyMoly this product contains banana extract and milk protein. It is supposed to give nutrition to dry hands and keep them healthy.

How the full size looks like.

The first thing that hits me is that this smells like banana chewing gum and the consistency is actually thicker than I expected it to be.

The scent is a little bit too sweet for my taste but it mellows down very fast when you massage this into your skin. After two minutes it disappears completely so it really is not a huge issue for me.

The formula is not sticky but it is very creamy and it sinks into your skin very fast, something that impresses me since that’s not usually my experience with hand creams. Usually they take forever and leave a sticky residue even when my hands has the texture of sandpaper.

This leaves no residue but my hands feel extremely soft, hydrated and comfortable.

I believe I’ll have to buy the full size of this very soon because I am wowed by this.

Have you tried this?

Do you love it?
